Oro tejido con paja

The exhibition Oro tejido con paja (Gold woven with straw) responds to an invitation from the team at La Casa Encendida to work with artists active in the national context who, due to their date of birth prior to 1965, were not eligible for the Generaciones call for entries, aimed at artists under 35 years of age.
The answer takes the form of two projects bringing together Elena Mendizabal and Joan Rom, two artists whose practice is mainly sculptural, both very active in their respective contexts, the Basque Country and Catalonia, in the 1980s and 1990s. The exhibition brings together a selection of their most recent works, some of which are unpublished, in dialogue with a piece from an earlier period. The exhibition reflects on the unstable condition of our times through formal experimentation with different materials, their plasticity, fragility and strength. Underlying it is the need to reconnect with manual work, with direct encounter with the work of art and its physical condition, while highlighting artistic practice as an essential field of knowledge in the contemporary world.
