Electrónica en Abril 2025

2 Apr - 6 Apr
Electrónica en Abril 2025

Electrónica en Abril 2025 reclaims humans in the age of machines. Elisa Luengo takes over as curator and proposes a programme that explores the intersection between electronic music and pop and traditional music with a lineup featuring Herbert & Momoko, Jenny Hval, Abdullah Miniawy & Maurice Louca, Colin Self and others.

For its twenty-first edition, Electrónica en Abril brings new names and a new curator to continue exploring cutting-edge trends in contemporary electronic music.

Elisa Luengo, former booker at De School in Amsterdam and now a programmer at Dekmantel, the leading electronic music festival in the Netherlands, takes over from the Barcelona-based Jokkoo collective for the next three years of Electrónica en Abril. In her first proposal, she examines the boundaries of the genre, moving away from a classical conception of electronic music to explore its intersection with pop and traditional music.

The programme speaks to the changing musical and sociological context. Once a sub-culture, electronic music is now an integral part of the global scene, following the same trajectory as genres like jazz and rock in the past. The new curatorial line seeks to reflect this omnivorous evolution and celebrate the eclectic sounds of contemporary electronic music.

The festival kicks off on Thursday with Colin Self and his debut presentation of GASP!, a performative show that involves a local amateur choir. On Friday, the Courtyard hosts the intimate R&B of Dawuna and the iconic Matthew Herbert, who presents his new album with Momoko Gill. In the Auditorium, the collaboration between Abdullah Miniawy and Maurice Louca, two of the most prolific artists in the Egyptian experimental scene, give their first-ever concert in Madrid. The festival continues on Saturday with the anti-heroine of pop Jenny Hval, the classical tones of LUXE and the national sensation Carme López, whose bagpipe seeks out the most experimental edges of traditional Galician music. On Sunday, Miniclub de Baile puts the finishing touch to the festival with an In Family session. This year the festival also includes a music production workshop led by Merca Bae and a round-table discussion on the state of the Madrid electronic scene.

As another new feature of this year’s edition, Electrónica en Abril moves to the nearby Sala Villanos with a session entitled Electrónica en el Club that celebrates the global explosion of Latin club with Safety Trance, DJ/rupture, Vimana Discplay live and Las Lindas Pobres.
