Situated Listenings I

Conceived for a small group of participants, the course blends theoretical and practical sessions, encouraging both individual and collective experimentation.

The course begins at the end of April with an introductory session, followed by a workshop in May guided by katrinem and Sam Auinger. This workshop engages with the affective dimension of sound, conscious listening, and urban vitality through sound walks and exercises.

In June, the course will unfold in three intensive blocks with a flexible and porous structure, acting as a laboratory where participants can pursue investigations and projects, individually or in groups. Strategies such as phonography, composition with environmental sounds, spatial audio, sound installations, sound walks, and site-specific interventions will be explored. The city and everyday spaces will become territories for experimentation and action, where human and non-human dynamics converge to reveal complex sound ecologies.

Through exploratory listening, practical exercises, and the development of ideas, participants will address aesthetic, technical, and critical aspects alongside methodologies, technologies, and references for artistic research.

This first part of the program also includes three online masterclasses open to the public, featuring Makis Solomos, Elena Biserna, and Usue Ruiz Arana.

The course will conclude at the end of June with an open-door session, where participants can share their processes, ideas, and works-in-progress in a space for encounter and shared listening.
